LENS REPLACEMENT SURGERY

While “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis” (LASIK) surgery may be a very good way for younger patients, in particular, to correct refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism), “lens replacement surgery” (LRS) may be a better option for older patients. Unlike LASIK, which involves reshaping the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye), LRS encompasses replacing the eye lens with an implant. Doing so with a high-tech, multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) helps older patients overcome the effects of “presbyopia” (age-related lens inflexibility that necessitates reading glasses) and cataracts.
